How it works

From description to shortlist

What the generator does with your words, and the part it leaves to you.

  1. Describe the channel

Up to 500 characters: what you make, who it is for and the feel you want. Concrete beats clever, so "60-second true stories from history" works better than "cool vibes".

  2. Pick one of six styles

Aesthetic, Funny, Professional, Cute, Edgy or Minimalist. The style is passed to the AI as a tone hint, so the same description gives a different list in each style.

  3. Get ten names, then vet them

GPT-3.5 Turbo returns ten short names you can copy with one click. It does not check whether they are taken, so search each favorite before you commit.

Better input

What to write in the description

The names are only as specific as the description. For a mystery channel like the ones on our unsolved mysteries niche page, the first example below is the kind of input that works.

  • Faceless stories

Say the format and the length

Example: "60-second true stories about unsolved disappearances." Leave out the word faceless unless you want names about shadows and masks.

  • Gaming

Name the game, or deliberately do not

Naming one game gives sharper ideas but ties you to it. If you might switch games, describe the style of play instead, such as "calm, cozy survival builds".

  • Business

Start from the brand you already have

Put the company name and what customers come to you for in the description. Professional style plus the brand name often gives usable variants for a separate channel.

  • Education

Name the learner, not just the subject

"Algebra explained for adults returning to school" gives better names than "math". The audience tells the AI how serious or playful to be.

  • Comedy

    Give it the joke

Funny names come out flat unless the description already has a funny angle. Describe your running bit or your persona and pick the Funny style.

  • Art and music

Describe the medium and the mood

"Lo-fi piano covers of video game music" or "watercolor speed paintings of old buildings" gives the AI materials to borrow from. Aesthetic and Minimalist suit these.

Before you claim it

Eight checks before you claim a name

Ten minutes now saves a rename later, when changing it costs you recognition.

  1. Say it out loud

Read "subscribe to" plus the name, as you would in a video. If it trips your tongue, it will trip your viewers when they recommend you.

  2. Run the spelling test

Tell a friend the name without showing it and ask them to type it. Every misspelling is a viewer who cannot find you.

  3. Search YouTube for the exact name

If a big channel already uses it or something close, you will compete with it in search for as long as the channel exists.

  4. Check it fits the handle rules

Handles run from 3 to 30 characters and can use letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods. A long name may need a shorter handle.

  5. Check the other platforms

Look for the same handle on TikTok and Instagram. A matching set is easier for viewers to follow from one platform to the next.

  6. Look for trademarks

Search the public trademark databases in the countries you care about, such as the USPTO in the US or EUIPO in the EU, for names in your field.

  7. Leave room to grow

Skip years, numbers and words tied to one trend. A history channel called something about a single war has nowhere to go after the war ends.

  8. Prefer real words over mashups

The generator likes joined-up names such as MysteryMinute. They are fine as handles, but a name with a space reads better as a title.

Troubleshooting

When the list misses the mark

Four patterns we saw in testing, and how to steer the next try.

  • Every name sounds dark and mysterious

If your description mentions a faceless or anonymous channel, the AI takes it literally. Our test for a faceless history channel returned names like WhisperTales, SilentSaga and ShadowHistory. Describe the content, not the fact that you stay off camera.

  • The names I like are already taken

Add your niche word to the end, combine the first half of one idea with the second half of another, or switch styles and generate again. You get three tries a day.

  • They are all run-together words

Ask for it in the description, for example "two separate real English words". The model usually follows instructions written into the description.

  • The best name is too long for a handle

Keep the full name as the channel name and use a shorter version for the handle. Channel names and handles do not have to match exactly.

Making the videos without a camera

If the channel is going to be faceless, Blipix can produce the episodes: Shorts or longer videos with an AI narrator, pictures and captions. On the free plan you can generate and preview a 30 to 60 second video; exporting and posting need a paid plan. The YouTube Shorts maker and long-form video generator pages show the two formats, and our YouTube automation guide covers posting on a schedule without breaking YouTube's rules.

  • A narrated video from a topic, a niche preset or your own script
  • An AI image for each beat in one of 39 art styles, plus captions and music
  • Paid plans publish straight to YouTube, or on a schedule with a series

Your description and chosen style go to OpenAI's GPT-3.5 Turbo with a request for ten short, brandable names without numbers or symbols. It runs at a high creativity setting, so pressing the button again with the same description gives a different list.

No. It only suggests names. Search YouTube for each one, then try it as a handle in YouTube Studio, which tells you straight away whether the handle is free. Do the same on any other platform you plan to use.

A handle is 3 to 30 characters long, can contain letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods, and must be unique on YouTube. Your channel name can be longer and does not need to be unique, which is why the handle is the harder one to get.

YouTube lets you change the channel name and the handle twice each within 14 days. If your channel has a verification badge, changing the name removes it, so settle the name before the channel grows.

A name about the content, not about you. Viewers subscribe to the stories or the subject, so a name that promises them travels further than an invented persona. Our guide to starting a faceless YouTube channel covers naming alongside niche choice.

It can help viewers understand the channel at a glance, but titles and descriptions carry far more search weight than the name. Spend your keyword effort on video titles; the YouTube title length checker counts a title's characters against a 55-character guideline.

Three times per IP address, so 30 names a day in total. The counter resets at midnight UTC. Tries that fail with an error are not counted.

It is sent to OpenAI's API to produce the names and is not stored by Blipix. We record your IP address and the date, which is how the three-a-day limit works.
